Battleship Ship Sizes & Placement Rules
The current Hasbro Battleship Classic fleet contains five ships with lengths from two to five grid holes.
Ship sizes
- Carrier: 5 holes
- Battleship: 4 holes
- Destroyer: 3 holes
- Submarine: 3 holes
- Patrol Boat: 2 holes
Place ships before the first shot
All five ships are positioned secretly on your ocean grid during setup. The opponent should not be able to see your layout.
Keep every ship inside the grid
A ship must occupy valid grid spaces for its full length. Do not place any part outside the ocean grid.
Horizontal or vertical placement
Classic Battleship ships occupy straight lines on the grid. Do not place ships diagonally or bend them.
No overlapping
Each grid location can hold only one part of one ship, so ships cannot overlap.
