Who we are

Our website address is: https://boardgamearchive.com.

Contact and correction submissions

When you use the Contact & Corrections form, we collect the name, email address and report text that you submit. We use this information to review feedback, verify proposed corrections, respond when necessary and maintain a record of editorial corrections or moderation decisions. Your email address is not displayed publicly.

Report text may be retained as part of the site’s moderation and correction history. If a report is used to improve a published article, we may publish the substance of the correction or source information, but not your email address. Do not include personal information that is not necessary for the report.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Advertising and Ezoic

BoardGame Archive uses Ezoic to manage and optimize advertising on this website. Ezoic and its advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, local storage, IP addresses, device identifiers and similar technologies to deliver, measure, limit and personalize advertising, detect invalid traffic or fraud, and produce advertising and performance reports.

Information processed for advertising may include your IP address, general location derived from your IP address, browser and device information, operating system, pages viewed, referring pages, interactions with advertisements, consent choices and identifiers stored in cookies or similar technologies. Depending on your location and consent choices, advertising may be personalized or non-personalized.

Ezoic may work with third-party advertising, measurement and technology providers that process information in connection with serving and measuring advertisements. Those providers may process data under their own privacy policies and applicable legal requirements.

Advertising consent and privacy choices

Where required by law, BoardGame Archive uses a consent management platform provided through Ezoic to request and record privacy choices before certain advertising or tracking technologies are used. The consent interface may allow you to accept, reject or manage categories of processing and participating vendors.

You can change or withdraw your consent using the privacy or consent controls made available on this website. Your choices may be stored so that the site and participating partners can respect them on later visits. Clearing browser cookies or using a different browser or device may require you to make your choices again.

BoardGame Archive also configures privacy and consent settings through Ezoic for applicable privacy laws. The exact rights and choices available to you may depend on your country, state or region.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

We may also share or make information available to service providers that support website hosting, security, analytics, advertising, consent management, fraud prevention and related site operations, including Ezoic and advertising partners involved in serving or measuring ads.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, or certain forms of targeted or personalized advertising. Some of these choices may be exercised through the consent or privacy controls displayed on this website.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Advertising, analytics and consent-management providers may process information on infrastructure located in countries other than your own, subject to their contractual, technical and legal safeguards.

Website analytics

BoardGame Archive uses Google Analytics, connected through Site Kit by Google, to understand how visitors use this website and improve its content. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies and collect information about your device and browser, pages visited and interactions with the site to produce usage reports. Information collected through this service is processed by Google.

For details, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google’s Privacy Policy. You can manage or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect some website features.
