Heat: Pedal to the Metal Strategy – Corners, Heat & Track Position

Editorial analysis: Heat is won by spending engine capacity where track position matters most. Saving every Heat leaves speed unused; spending it too early leaves the car unable to attack decisive corners and straights later.

Plan one corner ahead, not one card ahead

Your best hand on the current straight may be the wrong hand if it forces an awkward gear before the next corner. Work backward from the next speed limit: decide the gear and Heat budget you want at the corner, then choose current speed accordingly.

Treat Heat in the engine as future acceleration

Available Heat lets you overdrive corners, shift aggressively and Boost. Once Heat leaves the engine it can clog your hand until cooled. Spend it where the positional gain is worth both the immediate cost and the future hand-management burden.

Use lower gears deliberately to clean the hand

Cooling is not simply a penalty for slowing down. A well-timed low gear can return Heat to the engine before a long straight, preparing the car for a much stronger acceleration phase.

Position for Slipstream instead of always leading

Being immediately behind another car can create free movement and reduce how much speed you must generate yourself. On the approach to a corner, second place can sometimes be more efficient than first if it gives you a slipstream and lets the leader absorb the harder positioning problem.

Stress is safer when the acceptable speed range is wide

Stress introduces uncertainty. Resolve it on open straights or situations where several possible values are acceptable. Near a tight corner, known Speed cards give better control over Heat cost and spinout risk.

Boost where extra spaces change the race

A Boost that merely moves you within the same pack may not justify its Heat. It becomes stronger when it clears a corner, reaches a slipstream position, denies an opponent space or crosses the finish line.

The final lap changes the Heat economy

Heat saved for a later lap has no value after the finish. Once the final corner is behind you, convert remaining engine capacity into speed as aggressively as the remaining hand and track allow.
