Century: Spice Road
Build a compact engine of merchant cards, convert spices efficiently and claim valuable point cards before rival caravan leaders.
Play merchant cards to gain spices, upgrade them or convert one combination into another.
Resting returns previously played merchant cards to your hand, while point cards convert accumulated spices into victory points. New merchant cards gradually improve the engine.
Why We Love It
Century: Spice Road makes efficiency visible through a small hand of reusable merchant cards. The challenge is building a conversion engine that reaches valuable point cards before opponents do.

What is Century: Spice Road?
Century: Spice Road is Emerson Matsuuchi’s 2017 card-driven trading game for 2–5 players. Next Move lists a 30–45 minute duration and age 8+.
Players improve a personal hand of merchant cards and use those cards to produce or upgrade spice cubes.
How the game works
On a turn, you take one merchant card from the market, play a card from your hand, claim a point card by paying its spice cost, or rest to return all played cards to your hand.
Some cards generate spices while others convert lower-value spices into higher-value ones, creating a compact resource engine.
The decisions that define it
The central puzzle is action efficiency. A card that looks weak alone may become powerful if it creates the exact conversion chain needed for several point cards.
Resting recovers your whole engine but costs a turn, so timing the rest action is as important as choosing what to acquire.
