Clank! Scoring & Escape Rules: Artifacts, Knockout and Mastery
Clank! scoring depends on both what you steal and whether you make it far enough back toward safety. The game deliberately separates “collecting points” from “surviving with those points.”
Artifacts are the central treasure
Artifacts carry printed point values and the deeper ones are generally more valuable. You normally carry one artifact unless a rule or item increases that capacity. Taking an artifact also raises the dragon’s rage, making later attacks more dangerous.
A full escape earns the Mastery bonus
Reach the surface with an artifact to complete a full escape and claim the Mastery token associated with that achievement. That bonus is added to the rest of your eligible score.
Knockout location matters
Clank! distinguishes between being knocked out in the safer upper portion of the dungeon and being knocked out too deep to be rescued. The exact board boundary is printed on the map. If you are still deep when your health fills, your haul may fail to score; reaching the safer area protects much more of your work even if you do not fully escape.
What contributes to final score?
- Artifacts you are eligible to score.
- Major and minor secrets or other treasure with printed point values.
- Monkey idols and other scoring tokens you collected.
- Gold, converted to points as specified by the rules.
- Victory-point values printed on cards in your deck.
- The Mastery bonus if you escaped successfully.
The first escape accelerates everyone else’s deadline
When a player leaves the dungeon—or otherwise reaches the state that starts the countdown—the remaining thieves face a short endgame with escalating dragon pressure. Do not calculate a deep treasure route as if you will receive unlimited normal turns afterward.
Highest eligible total wins
After the dungeon is resolved, total the points each eligible player retained. Highest score wins; consult the official rulebook for the exact tiebreak and any expansion-specific scoring changes.
