How to Play Sankoré: Students, Disciplines & Knowledge

Sankoré: The Pride of Mansa Musa is a heavy eurogame about developing a university through four academic disciplines: theology, law, mathematics and astronomy.

Scope: Osprey base game; solo mode is separate from this multiplayer guide.

Enroll students

Bring students into the university and assign them to academic disciplines. Student placement determines which teaching and graduation opportunities become available.

Teach disciplines

Use actions to advance students and develop theology, law, mathematics and astronomy. Each discipline has its own board interactions and knowledge output.

Build the university

Construct university spaces and infrastructure that expand action access and support future students.

Spread knowledge

Knowledge tokens and discipline presence spread across the shared systems. What players collectively develop changes the eventual value of the four disciplines.

Graduate students

Graduation converts trained students into progress, knowledge and other rewards according to their discipline and the current university state.

Scoring values are endogenous

The four disciplines do not have completely fixed importance. Player actions influence which fields become more valuable at final scoring.

Endgame

As the university reaches its completion conditions, resolve the final round/end sequence and score knowledge and other university achievements.
