How to Play Weather Machine: Research, Experiments & Prototypes
Weather Machine is a heavy eurogame about conducting research, publishing scientific work and building prototypes while Lativ’s machine creates dangerous weather side effects.
Scope: Eagle-Gryphon base game; solo-specific rules excluded.
Move your Scientist
On your turn, move to one of the main action locations and resolve the available action using your assistants, chemicals, vouchers and laboratory capacity.
Gather resources
Chemicals, vouchers and machine parts support experiments, research, publications and prototypes. Storage and laboratory development limit how efficiently you can hold and convert them.
Research weather types
Advance research in the relevant weather area and place research markers where the rules allow. Focused progress is more useful when it feeds an upcoming paper or prototype.
Run experiments
Experiments use weather-machine spaces and resources to advance scientific work, trigger rewards and contribute to later publication/prototype opportunities.
Publish papers
Meet the publication requirements and contribute the needed research. Papers produce prestige and can create citation/scoring value.
Build prototypes
Prototype construction converts research, parts and laboratory development into major scoring and progress.
Repair extreme weather
Extreme Weather tiles create shared pressure. Repairing them can provide rewards while reducing the damage caused by the machine.
Game end
When the official end condition is reached, resolve final scoring from publications, prototypes, awards, breakthroughs and other base-game categories.
