How to Play Yahtzee: Rolls, Scorecard, 13 Turns & Winning
Yahtzee is played over 13 turns per player. On every turn you roll five dice up to three times, then fill exactly one empty box on your scorecard.
Start the game
Each player rolls one die. Highest roll starts and play continues clockwise. Write player names on the scorecard in turn order.
First roll
Roll all five dice. If you already have the result you want, you may score immediately. Otherwise continue.
Second roll
Set aside any dice you want to keep and reroll the others. You may also reroll all five.
Third roll
Reroll any combination of dice, including dice you previously kept. After this roll you must score the turn.
Fill one box
Choose any empty upper- or lower-section box that can take the roll. If you cannot or do not want to score the result in an available category, enter zero in one empty box. A filled box cannot be used again.
After 13 turns
Every category will be filled. Add the upper section, any 35-point upper bonus, lower section and Yahtzee bonuses. The highest grand total wins.
