Clans of Caledonia Strategy: Market Timing, Contracts & Expansion
Editorial analysis: Clans of Caledonia rewards expansion that solves production, geography and scoring simultaneously. Cheap land is not automatically good land.
Use your clan ability from round 1
Clan powers change the relative value of units, goods or actions. Build the opening around that asymmetry instead of using a generic production plan.
Expand toward several future contracts
A network that produces only one good efficiently can become inflexible. Position units so future production supports multiple export patterns or cheap neighbourhood purchases.
Trade before or after opponents with price movement in mind
If you intend to buy a good, another player’s purchase may make it more expensive. If you plan to sell, rival selling can depress the price. Timing can be worth as much as a production action.
Neighbourhood bonuses can replace production
Sometimes it is cheaper to build beside an opponent’s industry and buy the needed good than to create your own full production chain. Use adjacency as an economic tool, not merely a map constraint.
Contracts should match your production engine
A contract is attractive when most of its required goods are already cheap for you. Taking a high-reward tile that forces several inefficient market buys can erase the benefit.
Protect final settlement connectivity
Late expansion should preserve or increase your connected settlements/network scoring. A single isolated high-profit building can underperform a placement that strengthens the final map bonus.
