Recruit followers for a purpose
Every new follower increases capability but also dilutes the bag. Add a type because it supports a repeated action plan, not simply because its track reward looks attractive.
Technology increases draw efficiency
A permanent technology tile reduces the number of followers required to trigger an action. Place it on an action you expect to repeat many times, where one saved follower matters every round.
Development improves more than one system
Moving up the development track can increase draw capacity and final scoring leverage. Time those advances so the benefit arrives early enough to affect several rounds.
Trading stations should support the final multiplier
Map expansion is strongest when it gathers goods now and also increases the citizen/trading-station component of final scoring. Avoid long detours that do neither efficiently.
Remove weak followers when the opportunity is efficient
Bag thinning improves future draws. Permanent removal is most valuable when it eliminates a follower type that no longer supports your core actions.

An elegant bag has no value after the last round. Use the final cycles to complete stations, collect high-value goods and improve the scoring multiplier instead of optimizing future draw consistency.
