King of Tokyo Victory Rules: Tokyo, 20 VP, Damage & Elimination

King of Tokyo has two independent victory routes: reach 20 victory points or become the only surviving monster. Tokyo accelerates both routes by awarding VP and changing who your attacks can hit.

Win by reaching 20 VP

As soon as your monster reaches 20 VP, you meet the normal point-victory condition, subject to resolving any simultaneous/card effects required by the rules.

Win by eliminating every other monster

A monster whose health reaches zero is eliminated. If only one monster remains in the game, that monster wins even if it has fewer than 20 VP.

Entering Tokyo scores 1 VP

When Tokyo is empty and your turn requires you to enter, gain 1 VP for entering.

Starting your turn in Tokyo scores 2 VP

If you begin your turn occupying Tokyo, gain 2 VP before resolving your normal dice turn. Staying for multiple full rounds can therefore generate VP without rolling number dice.

Tokyo changes attack targets

A monster outside Tokyo attacks the monster(s) in Tokyo. A monster in Tokyo attacks every monster outside Tokyo. This makes claws much more dangerous when the Tokyo monster can hit several opponents at once.

The Tokyo monster normally cannot heal from hearts

Ordinary heart dice do not heal a monster while it occupies Tokyo. Power cards can create exceptions, but the base rule is what makes staying in Tokyo progressively risky.

Leaving Tokyo happens after being damaged by an attack

When another monster’s attack damages you in Tokyo, you may yield the city after the attack resolves. The attacking monster takes the vacated Tokyo position. You cannot normally leave Tokyo at an arbitrary time merely because you want to heal.
