How to Play Jaipur: Market, Camels, Sales & Round End
Jaipur is a two-player trading game played as a best-of-three style match: win a round to gain a Seal of Excellence, and the first player to collect two seals wins. Each turn you either take cards from the shared market or sell one type of goods from your hand.
The market always shows five cards
The shared market contains goods and camels. Each player has a hand of goods plus a separate herd of camels. Hand size is limited, but camels do not count toward that hand limit.
On a take turn, choose one of three options
- Take one good: take a single goods card from the market and refill the empty space from the deck.
- Take all camels: move every camel in the market to your herd, then refill all emptied market spaces.
- Exchange: take two or more goods from the market and replace them with the same number of cards from your hand and/or camels from your herd, following the exchange restrictions.
On a sell turn, sell one goods type
Discard any number of cards of one goods type and take the same number of matching goods tokens from the top of that token stack, starting with the highest remaining values. Expensive goods have minimum-sale requirements under the rules.
Large sales earn bonus tokens
Selling sets of 3, 4 or 5+ goods earns a bonus token from the matching stack. Bonus values are hidden until collected, which creates a tradeoff between selling early for high goods-token values and waiting to build a larger set.
Camels are trading power, not hand cards
Camels cannot be sold for ordinary goods tokens. Their main role is enabling exchanges and allowing you to take all camels from the market without using hand space. At round end, the player with the larger herd receives the camel bonus token.
The round ends from token depletion or an empty deck
A round ends immediately when three goods-token piles are depleted or when the deck cannot refill the market to five cards. Players then total their round score.
Round winner earns a Seal of Excellence
Add goods tokens, sale bonuses and the camel token if earned. The richer merchant wins the round and takes one Seal of Excellence. Reset for another round; the first player with two seals wins the match.
