How to Play Teotihuacan: City of Gods – Worker Dice, Actions & Ascension
Teotihuacan is a heavy rondel-style eurogame where worker dice grow stronger as you use them. Players move around modular Action Boards, build the Pyramid of the Sun, advance technologies and temples, and score across three Eclipses.
Scope: Board & Dice base game only.
Move one worker 1–3 Action Boards
On your turn, choose an unlocked worker die and move it clockwise the allowed distance around the board.
Choose the Main action or Collect Cocoa
The Main action uses your workers at that location and often becomes stronger with more workers/higher power. If the location is crowded or you need currency, take the Collect Cocoa action instead using the occupancy formula.
Worker power increases
Many Main actions raise the moved worker’s die value. Stronger dice improve later actions but also increase salary costs during Eclipse scoring.
Power 6 causes Ascension
When a worker would advance beyond 5, it Ascends: move up the Avenue of the Dead, reset/reposition the die according to the rules and choose an Ascension reward. Ascension also advances the calendar.
Main development routes
Actions let you gather resources, unlock Technologies, build Houses, decorate structures, build Pyramid tiles, worship, gain Discovery tiles and advance temple tracks.
Eclipses score the eras
When the light calendar disc reaches the dark disc, finish the required turns and resolve Eclipse scoring. The third Eclipse ends the game; completing the Pyramid can also accelerate the final Eclipse.
