How to Play Yokohama: Assistants, President Movement & Orders
Yokohama is a network-movement eurogame where assistants create the route your president can travel through the city. Strong actions require planning both where your workers go and how your president reaches them.
Scope: Synapses Games 2024 edition; included mini-expansions are excluded unless your group adds them.
1. Place assistants
At the start of your turn, place assistants into city areas according to the normal placement rules. These assistants prepare future action strength and create legal movement paths.
2. Move your president
Your president moves through connected areas containing your own assistants and ends in the area where you want to act. Remove or manage assistants as required by movement.
3. Determine action power
Action strength is based on your presence in the destination area, including the president, assistants and qualifying buildings. Stronger action power unlocks larger rewards.
4. Resolve the destination action
City areas provide goods, money, imported goods, technology, order fulfillment, church progress or other benefits. Some actions also allow you to build shops or trading houses.
5. Shops and trading houses matter later
Buildings can improve future actions, create end-game value and establish your network across the board. Trading houses are especially important for area presence and scoring.
6. Complete orders and gain technology
Order cards convert goods into money, fame and bonuses. Technology cards provide persistent advantages and can shape which routes and action spaces are most efficient for you.
Endgame
The game ends after the standard end condition is triggered. Final scoring adds fame from completed orders, technologies, achievements, buildings and other end-game sources specified by the rules.
