7 Wonders Duel
7 Wonders Duel explained: three victory paths, accessible-card turns, resource trading, Wonders and beginner strategy, with official Repos Production sources.
7 Wonders Duel is a two-player standalone game in the 7 Wonders family, designed by Antoine Bauza and Bruno Cathala. Two civilizations compete through science, military pressure, Wonders and long-term development across three Ages.
Its shared card display creates meaningful tactical choices: taking one card can expose another to your opponent, while military and scientific supremacy can end the game before final scoring.
Why We Love It
7 Wonders Duel takes the civilization-building core of 7 Wonders and turns it into a focused two-player contest. It is quick to play, straightforward to learn and unusually deep for a 30-minute game, with strong replayability from the changing card layouts and competing victory routes.
About 7 Wonders Duel
In 7 Wonders Duel, each player develops an ancient civilization over three Ages. You draft accessible cards, build your city, strengthen production, advance in science, push the military conflict and construct Wonders.
There are three ways to win: reach your opponent’s capital for military supremacy, collect six different scientific symbols for scientific supremacy, or finish Age III with the higher point total. The result is a balance of short-term tactical decisions and long-term planning.
Game at a Glance

Build Your Civilization
Draft cards to develop your city and unlock new possibilities.

Advance in Science
Collect science symbols to gain progress tokens and threaten an instant win.

Strengthen Your Military
Push the conflict pawn toward your opponent’s capital to win immediately.

Construct Wonders
Build Wonders to gain powerful effects and shape the tempo of the duel.
How a round works
Set the conflict pawn and five randomly chosen progress tokens on the board, give each player starting coins and select four Wonders per player using the rulebook’s selection procedure. Prepare the Age layout and reveal only the face-up cards indicated by the official aid.
- Choose an accessible card. A card is accessible when no other card partly covers it.
- Use it in one of three ways. Build it, discard it for coins, or use it to construct a Wonder.
- Reveal newly accessible cards. Your choice changes what the opponent can reach next.
Brown and gray buildings provide resources for later constructions. Missing resources can be bought from the bank, with prices influenced by your opponent’s production and modified by commercial effects.
How do you win?
Military: shields move the conflict pawn toward the rival capital; reaching it wins immediately. Science: six different scientific symbols also produce an immediate victory. Points: if neither supremacy condition is met, the game is scored after Age III.
Each player receives four Wonders, but only seven Wonders can be built in total, so timing your construction matters.
Three decisions to practice
Watch what your choice uncovers. Taking a strong card can reveal an even stronger option for the opponent.
Balance production against tempo. Resource cards reduce future costs, but over-investing can lose initiative.
Keep all three victory routes visible. Military and science pressure can force defensive moves even when your main plan is a points victory.
