Everdell Journeys

Draft a route through the world of Everdell, send your traveler along the cards you chose, activate locations and encounters, and turn the journey into points, resources and memories.

♟2–5 Players ◷30–60 Minutes ▣Aug 2027 Est. ⚙Card Drafting ◆Deluxe: 1–10

Everdell Journeys is a standalone card-drafting game set in the Everdell world. Instead of building a city through the worker-placement system of the original game, players draft Journey cards, arrange them into a personal path, then move a traveler through that path to trigger effects and build scoring combinations.

The Kickstarter campaign ran in September 2026. The standard game is designed for 2–5 players, while the Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions expand the player range to 1–10 and add solo and cooperative modes. Current campaign reward pages estimate delivery in August 2027.

Why it stands out

Journeys uses a familiar Everdell setting but a substantially different core puzzle. Your main decisions are which cards to draft, how to order them in your route, and how to move through that route efficiently enough to turn individual card effects into stronger combinations.

Why this has strong search potential

Everdell is already one of the most recognizable modern hobby board-game brands, and Journeys is a new standalone release rather than a small expansion. That creates several separate search intents: rules, Kickstarter pledges, player count, solo play, release date, Deluxe differences, and comparisons with the original Everdell.

The title is also currently appearing in BoardGameGeek’s Hotness, giving it a better chance of attracting active pre-release searches than a lower-profile 2026 release.

How Everdell Journeys works

Everdell Journeys is built around a two-part puzzle: first you draft cards, then you decide how to use the route those cards create.

Journey cards represent landmarks, cities, characters and other discoveries from the Everdell world. As you acquire them, you lay them into a path in front of you. Your traveler then moves through that path, activating the cards it reaches.

The published description emphasizes points, resources and combinations. The designers have also described the central decision as both which cards you draft and the order in which you travel through them.

Why the draft matters

In many drafting games, the value of a card depends mostly on the card itself. Journeys adds another layer because the card also becomes part of your travel route.

A card with a modest standalone effect may be more useful if it sits before another card that benefits from the resource, symbol or condition it creates. Conversely, a strong card can lose value if your route does not give you a practical way to exploit it.

Editorial strategy principle: evaluate each pick in two ways—what it does immediately and what position it can occupy in your route.

Route building and traveler movement

Your drafted cards form the journey itself. The traveler physically moves through those cards, making the order of the route part of the scoring puzzle rather than just presentation.

Designer notes explain that an early version used several travel resources before the design was simplified. The later system centered travel costs around campfires and focused more heavily on card synergy.

This is an important difference from the original Everdell. In the original game, placement spaces, resources, construction cards and critters form a city-building economy. In Journeys, the spatial question is the sequence of cards in your personal route.

How scoring works

The publisher describes the goal as scoring points while filling your journal with memories gathered during the journey.

Current preview material shows that the game rewards efficient card combinations rather than simply activating as many cards as possible. The best path is therefore likely to depend on both card quality and the order in which those cards are visited.

Because the game is still in its pre-release period, detailed scoring edge cases should be checked against the final production rulebook once it is published.

How many players does Everdell Journeys support?

The standard edition supports 2–5 players.

The Kickstarter Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions expand that range to 1–10 players. Tycoon Games specifically states that the Deluxe edition adds both solo and cooperative modes.

That means “Everdell Journeys supports 10 players” is only accurate when discussing the upgraded edition. The standard $49 pledge is the 2–5 player version.

Does Everdell Journeys have a solo mode?

Yes, but not in the standard campaign edition. Solo play is included in the Deluxe version of Journeys, which expands the game from the standard 2–5 player range to 1–10 players.

The Deluxe pledge also adds cooperative play, more cards, additional destinations and Courage tokens according to the Kickstarter reward description.

If solo play is important to you, this is one of the most important edition differences to check before buying a retail or second-hand copy later.

Is Everdell Journeys cooperative?

The standard game is not being presented as a co-op-only design. Cooperative play is an additional mode included with the Deluxe edition.

That makes Journeys different from Everdell Duo, where cooperative campaign play is a central part of the product identity. Journeys is primarily a card-drafting journey game with co-op added in the upgraded edition.

Everdell Journeys pledge levels

EditionCampaign pricePlayer supportMain difference
Journeys: An Everdell Game$492–5Standard game + Gather card game
Journeys Deluxe$751–10Adds solo, co-op, more cards, destinations and Courage tokens
Journeys Super Deluxe$991–10Deluxe content plus upgraded components, metal first-player coin and two extra playable characters

These were Kickstarter campaign prices. The campaign has ended, so future retail pricing, late-pledge pricing or secondary-market pricing may differ.

What is Gather: An Everdell Card Game?

All three main Journeys pledge tiers included Gather: An Everdell Card Game.

Kickstarter describes Gather as a separate 15–20 minute card game in which players build a town and house critters through card laying.

It should not be confused with an expansion required to play Journeys. It is a separate bonus game bundled with the campaign pledges.

Is Super Deluxe worth more than Deluxe?

The gameplay-critical jump is from Standard to Deluxe because that is where solo, cooperative play and the expanded player count appear.

Super Deluxe then adds presentation upgrades and two additional playable characters. For a buyer focused mainly on modes and gameplay range, Deluxe is the more important threshold. For a collector who values upgraded components and exclusive characters, Super Deluxe has the clearer appeal.

This is an editorial value comparison, not a claim that one pledge is objectively better.

Journeys is not an expansion for the 2018 game. You do not need original Everdell to play it.

Everdell Journeys vs Everdell Duo

Everdell Duo is designed specifically around one or two players and includes competitive, cooperative and campaign-oriented play.

Journeys is broader. Its standard game begins at two players and reaches five, while Deluxe expands all the way to ten and adds solo/co-op. Its main puzzle is drafting and sequencing a route rather than managing the Sun/Moon card access system of Duo.

How Journeys differs from Everdell Emerland

Everdell Emerland belongs to the larger family of standalone Everdell strategy games that preserve more of the city-building and worker-placement DNA.

Journeys is intentionally a fresher mechanical departure. The theme still comes from the same world, but the decision structure is closer to a drafting and route-combo game than a traditional Everdell city engine.

Everdell Journeys release date and delivery

The Kickstarter campaign ran from September 8 to September 25, 2026.

Kickstarter reward pages currently list an estimated delivery of August 2027 for the main pledge levels.

BoardGameGeek labels the game as a 2026 title because that is when the game and campaign were formally listed, but campaign fulfillment is expected in 2027. For buyers, the practical date to watch is the delivery/retail window rather than the database year label.

How successful was the Kickstarter?

The campaign quickly moved far beyond its $35,000 funding goal. Near the end of the campaign, Kickstarter showed more than $848,000 pledged from over 7,000 backers.

That level of support matters for search demand because Journeys is not entering the market as an obscure side release. It already has a substantial audience actively comparing editions, delivery timing and gameplay.

Funding success should not be treated as proof of final game quality, however. The finished production game has not yet reached backers.

Who may like Everdell Journeys?

Journeys may suit players who like the Everdell setting but want a shorter game focused more on card selection and combinations than worker placement and city construction.

It may also suit groups that enjoy drafting games where the order of cards matters after the draft is complete.

The Deluxe edition is especially notable for larger groups because the advertised player range reaches ten, although final experience at the highest player counts should be judged after release rather than assumed from the box range alone.

Five things to check before buying

  • Do not assume the standard edition includes solo. Solo and co-op are Deluxe features.
  • Do not assume every edition supports 10 players. The standard edition is 2–5.
  • Do not buy it expecting original Everdell worker placement. Journeys is a drafting and route-building game.
  • Do not treat 2026 as the practical delivery year. Kickstarter currently estimates August 2027 fulfillment.
  • Do not assume Gather is required. It is a separate bonus card game included with campaign pledges.
