HELLDIVERS 2: The Board Game
Deploy a squad of Helldivers, call in Stratagems, survive friendly fire and complete tactical missions against swarms of enemies in Steamforged Games’ tabletop adaptation.
HELLDIVERS 2: The Board Game is a cooperative tactical miniatures game from Steamforged Games based on Arrowhead’s hit video game. One to four players form a Helldiver squad, select a mission, deploy into hostile territory and try to complete objectives before reinforcements or time run out.
The project was crowdfunded in 2025 and drew more than 8,000 backers. As of October 7, 2026, the most important buyer/backer question is no longer just how it plays: Gamefound still shows an October 2026 estimate, while Steamforged’s own crowdfunding page currently places HELLDIVERS 2 under In Development, not Fulfilment in Progress.
Why it stands out
The tabletop adaptation keeps the video game’s strongest tactical ideas instead of reducing the license to simple miniatures combat: squad coordination, escalating enemies, mission objectives, Stratagems, reinforcements and even friendly fire are part of the design identity.
Why this has strong Google-search potential
HELLDIVERS 2 has a much larger audience than a typical hobby-board-game property, and the tabletop campaign raised well over its initial goal with thousands of backers.
Current search intent is also unusually broad: people may be looking for gameplay, expansions, pledge differences, solo support, the October 2026 release estimate, shipping status or whether the project has actually entered fulfillment.

How HELLDIVERS 2: The Board Game works
The board game is a fully cooperative tactical mission game. Players control Helldivers equipped with weapons, armor and Stratagems, then deploy against hostile factions while trying to complete a mission objective.
Steamforged’s official description highlights coordinated movement, enemy swarms, reinforcements, evolving objectives and friendly fire as key elements carried over from the digital game.
The game is won by completing the selected mission. Performance is also measured through medals earned by defeating enemies, completing sub-objectives and extracting successfully.
Mission structure and victory
Each game begins with a mission rather than an open-ended campaign map. The squad must complete the mission objective while responding to enemy pressure and optional sub-objectives.
If a Helldiver dies, another can be sent in as a reinforcement. That means death is not automatically elimination—but the squad’s reinforcement supply is finite.
The mission is lost if the team runs out of reinforcements or runs out of time before completing the objective.
How Stratagems work
Stratagems are one of the most recognizable parts of HELLDIVERS 2, and Steamforged has retained them as a major tactical system.
Published examples include turrets, airstrikes and other support assets. Development updates have also discussed revised player dashboards and cooldown tracking to make loadouts and Stratagem use easier to manage.
The important strategic question is timing: a powerful Stratagem used too early may be unavailable when a larger enemy wave or objective crisis appears later.
Does the board game include friendly fire?
Yes. Steamforged explicitly includes friendly fire as part of the adaptation.
That matters because area damage and strong support abilities cannot be evaluated only by how many enemies they hit. Positioning your squad badly can make an otherwise powerful attack dangerous to your own team.
Editorial implication: the best attack may sometimes be the one that leaves an ally enough space to survive rather than the one with the highest theoretical damage.
Can HELLDIVERS 2: The Board Game be played solo?
Yes. Both Steamforged and BoardGameGeek list the board game for 1–4 players, and BGG classifies it as having solitaire rules.
Exact final solo procedures should still be checked against the finished rules once production is complete, because the project remains in development.
How long does the board game take?
BoardGameGeek currently lists a playing time of approximately 180 minutes.
Because the title remains unreleased and final production rules are not yet public, treat this as the current listing rather than a measured post-release average.
Commander vs Galactic Commander pledge
| Pledge | Current listed price | Includes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commander | £61 | Core HELLDIVERS 2 board game | Players who want the main game only |
| Galactic Commander | £92 | Core box + Patriot Exosuit + Loadout Expansion + Planetary Campaign Terrain Pack | Players wanting the main gameplay extras bundled |
The Gamefound project is currently closed, so these are campaign/pledge-manager prices rather than an offer you can necessarily buy today.
HELLDIVERS 2 board game expansions
The campaign offered a large expansion range, including:
- Patriot Exosuit Expansion
- Automatons Expansion
- Bile Titan Expansion
- Factory Strider Expansion
- Impaler Expansion
- Illuminate Expansion
- Harvester Expansion
- Loadout Expansion
- Planetary Campaign Terrain Pack
These do not all work independently. Steamforged has specifically said boss expansions require the relevant faction content—for example, a faction boss is not automatically a standalone enemy box.
Which expansions matter most?
For most players, the first distinction is between faction expansions and boss/content upgrades.
Faction boxes such as Automatons or Illuminate broaden the core enemy ecosystem. Boss boxes such as Bile Titan or Factory Strider are more specialized and may depend on associated faction content.
If you are buying after fulfillment rather than through the campaign, check compatibility before purchasing individual expansion boxes on the secondary market.
Is HELLDIVERS 2: The Board Game delayed?
The safest answer as of October 7, 2026 is: the original October 2026 estimate should not be treated as confirmed delivery.
Gamefound still displays October 2026 on the project’s pledge listings, and BoardGameGeek currently lists the English edition with an October 2026 release date—but also marks that edition Unreleased.
More importantly, Steamforged’s current crowdfunding status page lists HELLDIVERS 2 under In Development. It does not appear under Fulfilment in Progress.
That does not prove a specific replacement shipping date. It does mean there is not enough current official evidence to describe October 2026 delivery as confirmed.
Why does Gamefound say “Closed”?
Gamefound currently shows the project as Closed. On Gamefound, that means the project is no longer accepting new pledges or changes.
It does not mean copies have been delivered, and it should not be confused with the separate Fulfillment stage.
How successful was the crowdfunding campaign?
Third-party campaign tracking records roughly £1.83 million from 8,167 backers, far above the original £60,000 goal.
Steamforged’s own launch announcement also confirms that the campaign went live on April 8, 2025 after the March reveal.
The funding result demonstrates strong demand for the product, but—as with any crowdfunding campaign—it does not guarantee a specific manufacturing or delivery date.
How close is it to the HELLDIVERS 2 video game?
The tabletop version keeps the recognizable squad structure, enemy factions, weapons, Stratagems, reinforcements, objectives and friendly-fire risk.
What changes is pacing. Real-time shooting becomes turn-based tactical decision-making, and cooldowns, enemy movement and battlefield pressure have to be represented through components and rules rather than software.
The goal is therefore not to simulate every second of the shooter, but to preserve the feeling of coordinating a squad under escalating pressure.
Will HELLDIVERS 2: The Board Game come to retail?
The crowdfunding page distinguishes Gamefound-exclusive content from ordinary product content, but the final retail availability and exact retail package should be checked once Steamforged publishes post-campaign sales information.
Do not assume that every boss, expansion or upgraded component from the crowdfunding campaign will appear through normal retail channels.
Six mistakes to avoid
- Treating October 2026 as confirmed shipping. The project is still listed by Steamforged as In Development.
- Assuming “Closed” on Gamefound means fulfilled. It means new pledge activity is closed.
- Buying a boss expansion without checking its faction requirement.
- Assuming every Gamefound-exclusive item will reach retail.
- Expecting the board game to be real-time. It adapts the video game into turn-based tactical play.
- Using campaign funding as evidence that the finished game is good. Demand and final gameplay quality are separate questions.
HELLDIVERS 2 compared with other cooperative tactical games
| Game | Shared appeal | Main difference |
|---|---|---|
| Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion | 1–4 player tactical co-op and mission play | Jaws is card-driven campaign tactics; HELLDIVERS 2 focuses on firearms, dice, reinforcements and Stratagems. |
| Mansions of Madness: Second Edition | Co-op scenarios and escalating threats | Mansions is investigation/app horror; HELLDIVERS 2 is battlefield action. |
| Aeon’s End | Cooperative threat management | Aeon’s End is deck-building boss combat; HELLDIVERS 2 is miniatures-based mission tactics. |
| Nemesis: Legacy | Sci-fi survival against alien threats | Nemesis emphasizes horror and persistent campaign play; HELLDIVERS 2 emphasizes squad combat and repeatable missions. |
Who it may suit
HELLDIVERS 2 may suit fans of the video game who want a cooperative miniatures game centered on tactical missions rather than a long narrative campaign.
It may also appeal to groups that enjoy dice-driven combat, character loadouts and large expansion ecosystems.
It may be less suitable if you dislike crowdfunding uncertainty, want a compact game, or prefer deterministic combat with minimal randomness.
