Betrayal 3rd Edition Haunt & Victory Rules: Traitor, Heroes and Scenarios
Betrayal 3rd Edition includes 50 haunts. There is no single base-game scoring system; each haunt defines its own sides, special rules and win condition.
Triggering the haunt
Omen discoveries build toward a haunt check. When the 3rd Edition trigger is met, stop normal exploration and determine the scenario using the selected Scenario card and haunt procedure.
Determine the traitor
The haunt setup identifies whether there is a traitor and which player fills that role. Some haunts use unusual team structures, so never assume the traitor is simply the explorer who revealed the final Omen.
Separate information
Heroes read their section in Secrets of Survival; the traitor reads the corresponding Traitor’s Tome entry. Players should not read the opposing side’s secret information unless the scenario tells them to.
Scenario setup can add monsters and tokens
Place all haunt-specific monsters, markers and objectives exactly where the setup boxes instruct. Resolve any immediate trait or inventory changes before play resumes.
Haunt rules override normal rules
If a haunt gives a special movement, attack, knowledge, objective or timing rule that conflicts with ordinary exploration, follow the haunt text for that scenario.
Victory is scenario-specific
The Heroes and traitor each receive explicit win instructions. The game ends immediately when one side satisfies its printed victory condition unless the haunt says otherwise.
