Rules overview

On a turn, move through rooms up to your Speed and resolve room text or any event, item or omen card you discover. Omen discoveries require a Haunt roll. Once the Haunt begins, use the scenario chart and the two scenario books to determine the traitor, objectives and special rules.

Key decisions

Editorial analysis: Before the Haunt, explore without scattering so widely that cooperation becomes difficult. Track useful items and which routes connect the house. After the Haunt, stop applying assumptions from the exploration phase: the scenario text overrides the normal objective and often changes what information each side has.

Common questions

When does the Haunt start?

After an omen is discovered, resolve the edition’s Haunt roll procedure. The result can trigger the scenario.

Is there always a traitor?

Many Haunts use a traitor, but the exact structure is determined by the selected scenario.

Do normal rules still apply during the Haunt?

Yes unless the selected Haunt explicitly changes them. Scenario-specific text takes priority where it conflicts.
