How to Play Pictionary: Teams, Drawing, Timer, All Play & Winning
This guide covers Mattel’s current family / 40th-anniversary Pictionary rules.
Form two teams
Divide players into two teams. Each team receives an erasable board, marker, category card and mover. Put both movers on Start.
Choose a Picturist
The active team selects one player to draw. The Picturist changes whenever a new clue is used.
Draw the clue
The Picturist secretly checks the clue matching the color/category of the team’s space and starts the sand timer. Standard clue rounds allow one minute for drawing and guessing.
Correct guess
If the team guesses before time expires, roll the die and advance that many spaces, then use a new Picturist and new clue.
Missed clue
If the team fails to guess in time, play passes to the other team without that team rolling first; it draws a new clue matching its current space.
All Play
On an All Play space, both teams receive the same clue and draw simultaneously. The first team to guess correctly gains control and advances.
Winning
Reaching the final space creates a chance to win, but the team must win the final All Play round on its own turn.
