How to Play Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization
Through the Ages is a card-driven civilization game with no territorial map. Players develop population, resources, science, military and culture across multiple historical ages.
Scope: A New Story of Civilization, not the older edition or digital app.
Civil actions
Use civil actions to take cards from the card row, increase population, build or upgrade structures, develop technologies, start Wonders and change governments.
Military actions
Use military actions to build military units, draw military cards and play eligible tactics, aggressions or political effects.
Card row
Cards move through the central row, becoming cheaper to acquire before eventually leaving. Timing determines whether you pay extra actions for early access or risk losing the card.
Population and resources
Blue cubes represent resources/food through farms and mines; yellow cubes represent population. Growth requires food and creates happiness/consumption pressures.
Science and technology
Science points unlock stronger farms, mines, urban buildings, military units and governments.
Military strength
Strength deters aggressions and helps during political events. Military is abstract but directly affects diplomatic safety.
Culture
Culture is the main victory-point track. Many leaders, Wonders and buildings generate culture immediately or each turn.
Game end
After the final age and end sequence, resolve remaining event/final scoring and compare culture totals.
