The Castles of Burgundy Scoring: Regions, Goods, Animals & Final VP
The Castles of Burgundy scores heavily during play, especially when regions are completed. Final scoring then adds leftover goods, Silverlings, workers and VP-bearing knowledge tiles.
Current-edition guide. Checked September 20, 2026 against Ravensburger/alea’s current rules structure.
Completed regions score by size
When you fill a connected region of one color, score immediately for its number of spaces. The standard size values are:
| Region size | VP |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 3 |
| 3 | 6 |
| 4 | 10 |
| 5 | 15 |
| 6 | 21 |
| 7 | 28 |
| 8 | 36 |
Earlier phases add a completion bonus
Every completed region also gains the current phase bonus. The standard base values fall as the game proceeds: Phase A 10, B 8, C 6, D 4 and E 2 VP.
Completing all regions of a color can also award the corresponding color bonus tile under the setup/player-count rules.
Livestock scores when placed
A livestock tile scores the animals shown on it plus matching livestock already in the same pasture according to the livestock rules. Matching herds can therefore rescore as the pasture develops.
Selling goods scores during play
When you sell all goods of one matching type, gain the current edition’s goods-sale VP per tile for the player count and exactly one Silverling for that sale. Sold goods can also matter to knowledge-tile scoring.
Final scoring after Phase E
- Each unsold goods tile: 1 VP.
- Each remaining Silverling: 1 VP.
- Every two worker tiles: 1 VP.
- Add VP from placed yellow knowledge tiles that score at game end.
- Hex tiles still sitting in storage do not score.
Tiebreaks
Highest VP wins. If tied, the current rules compare estate completion (fewer empty estate spaces), then the player who is later in turn order.
