How to Play Ultimate Railroads: Workers, Tracks & Industry
Ultimate Railroads contains the Russian Railroads system plus additional maps and modules. The core game is worker placement: actions advance tracks, improve rail quality, develop locomotives and build an industrial engine.
Scope: core Russian Railroads rules inside the Ultimate Railroads package; map-specific modules are separate.
Place workers on open action spaces
On your turn, place the required number of workers on one unoccupied action space and resolve it immediately. Most spaces are exclusive for the round.
Advance railway tracks
Railway actions move track markers along the Trans-Siberian and other routes. Different colored rails represent progressively upgraded infrastructure.
Upgrade track colors in sequence
Higher-value rails can advance only where earlier track colors have already reached. This creates a layered timing puzzle rather than independent tracks.
Acquire locomotives
Locomotives determine how far along a route you can score. Track beyond locomotive reach may be strategically useful but does not produce its full scoring value yet.
Develop industry and factories
Advance the industry marker to gain points and unlock factory spaces. Factories can extend the industry track and create powerful bonuses when crossed.
Engineers and turn order
Engineers provide additional action spaces and can contribute end-game points. Separate action spaces also let players influence turn order for the next round.
Score every round
At the end of each round, score qualifying railway and industry progress. Final scoring then adds engineers and any map-specific categories.
