PARKS Second Edition Strategy: Trail Timing, Gear & Photos
Editorial analysis: PARKS rewards trail timing more than raw movement. A hiker that advances too far may secure one premium site but give up several useful resource stops permanently.
Use both hikers as a timing system
Keep one hiker flexible while the other races for a contested site. If both move deep down the trail early, you lose access to much of the Season’s remaining resource economy.
Collect resources with a specific Park in mind
Do not accumulate a random mix. Identify one or two available Parks whose costs match the Trail Sites ahead and convert quickly before another player changes the display or takes the target.
Gear should repay over several actions
Early Gear that discounts common costs or amplifies frequent actions can generate value for all three Seasons. Late Gear should produce an immediate benefit because there is little time left to recover its cost.
Use the campfire on high-leverage occupied sites
Sharing a site is most valuable when it completes a Park cost, activates an important Canteen or prevents a rival from monopolizing a scarce action—not simply to gain one generic resource.
Build photography around your actual Park icons
Second Edition photography can reward the Park portfolio you already own. Take photos when their icon/bonus interaction scales with several visited Parks instead of treating every photo action as automatically valuable.
Season 3 is conversion
Unused resources rarely matter like claimed Parks and completed scoring effects. In the final Season, prioritize visiting, photographing and resolving final wildlife/objective value over long-term engine building.
