How to Play PARKS Second Edition: Hikers, Trail & Park Visits
PARKS Second Edition is a three-Season trail game for 1–5 players. Each player guides two hikers along a shared trail, collecting resources and converting them into Park visits, photos and other scoring opportunities.
Edition note: this covers the 2025 Second Edition, which integrates ideas from earlier PARKS expansions and is not identical to the 2019 first edition.
Move one hiker forward on your turn
Choose one of your hikers and move forward to a legal Trail Site. You normally cannot move backward, so moving far ahead means skipping the sites between your current position and the destination.
Resolve the Trail Site
Trail Sites provide natural resources or special actions involving Gear, Canteens, photos, wildlife, camping and other Second Edition systems. Add gained resources to your available supply/pack as allowed.
Use the campfire to share an occupied site when allowed
Your campfire provides limited flexibility for entering an occupied Trail Site under the edition’s rules. It refreshes according to hiker progress, so timing both hikers matters.
Visit Parks by paying their resource costs
Available Park cards show required natural resources. Spend the cost to claim a Park and gain its printed point value plus any immediate or ongoing Second Edition effect.
Gear and Canteens improve future turns
Gear can reduce costs or modify actions, while Canteens convert water or other triggers into additional benefits. These are engine pieces rather than points by themselves unless their text says otherwise.
Photos, wildlife and campsites add new scoring routes
Second Edition expands photography and wildlife compared with the original base game. Resolve each card/token according to its iconography and printed scoring condition.
After the third Season, score the trip
Add points from visited Parks, photos and other Second Edition scoring sources. Highest total wins.
