Potion Explosion Strategy: Chain Reactions, Potion Powers & Timing
Editorial analysis: The best first marble is often not one you need directly. It is the marble whose removal creates the most useful chain reaction.
Read the whole chute before taking a marble
Look above and below the target marble. Removing one ingredient can create multiple explosions if each new gap brings another matching pair together.
Prefer explosions that feed both active Potions
A long reaction is less valuable if most colors cannot be placed or stored. Compare chain size with actual recipe demand before choosing the move.
Potion powers should create another efficient turn
Do not drink a completed Potion simply because its power is available. Use it when it fixes the dispenser, gains a missing ingredient or creates a larger follow-up explosion.
Track Skill-token routes
If you already have two Potions with one power, a third can be worth more than its printed points because it also earns a 4-point Skill token. The same applies when approaching five distinct powers.
Avoid feeding the next player a perfect collision
Your move changes the dispenser. When two choices score similarly, prefer the one that leaves fewer obvious multi-color chains for the next player.
Endgame: convert completed recipes, not future potential
As the Skill-token supply runs low, unfinished Potions become dangerous investments. Focus on recipes you can realistically finish before the end trigger resolves.
