Raiders of the North Sea Strategy: Worker Colors, Crew & Raid Timing
Editorial analysis: Raiders rewards thinking one turn ahead about the worker you will pick up, not only the action you are taking now.
Use worker color as future access
The worker you collect controls which spaces and raids are available later. Taking a stronger-color worker can be worth more than the immediate village action attached to that space.
Plan both halves of a village turn
A strong place action followed by a weak pickup wastes the game’s signature efficiency. Look for pairs where the placed and removed worker both advance the same short-term objective.
Recruit crew for abilities as well as strength
Raw military matters, but persistent crew abilities can reduce costs, improve income or make later raids more efficient. A slightly weaker crew can be better if its abilities trigger repeatedly.
Raid before the best plunder disappears
Raid sites are shared and one-time. If a particular plunder mix or fortress reward fits your plan, waiting one extra village turn can let an opponent remove it permanently.
Valkyrie losses can be productive
Losing crew hurts, but the Valkyrie track can convert those losses into VP. Sacrifice expendable crew when the track value and raid reward justify the rebuilding cost.
Convert plunder before the ending accelerates
Offerings and track progress may score better than unused resources. Once end conditions approach, prioritize immediate conversion rather than stockpiling for turns that may not happen.
