How to Play Raiders of the North Sea: Workers, Crew & Raids
Raiders of the North Sea uses a distinctive worker-placement rhythm: on a village turn, place one worker and resolve its action, then pick up a different worker and resolve that action too. Raid turns instead send your crew to settlements for plunder and glory.
Village turn: place one worker
Choose a legal village action space for the worker in your supply and resolve it. Actions collect silver, provisions, cards, recruit crew or prepare other resources.
Then take a different worker
Remove another worker from the board and resolve that space as your second action. The color of the worker you take becomes your worker for a future turn, making worker color part of long-term planning.
Recruit crew before raiding
Crew cards cost silver to hire and contribute military strength and abilities. Some cards can instead be discarded for their Town Hall effect, so every card has multiple possible uses.
Raid actions require the right worker and resources
To raid a settlement, meet its worker-color, provision and crew-size requirements. Place your worker at the raid site, pay provisions and resolve the plunder and military-strength result.
Valkyries can remove crew but award track progress
Some raid rewards include Valkyrie icons. Resolve crew losses according to the rules and advance on the Valkyrie track, which contributes VP later.
Offerings and the Armory add scoring paths
Plunder can be converted through Chieftain offerings and other board effects. The Armory track also rewards increasing military strength and contributes to final scoring.
The game ends as raid sites are depleted
The end is triggered by the base-game depletion conditions involving fortresses, offerings and/or Valkyrie removal. Complete the final sequence, then score tracks, offerings, crew effects and resources.
