The Crew: Quest for Planet Nine Strategy – Inference, Trumps & Task Order
Editorial analysis: The Crew is mostly about protecting future trick control. A card that wins now can be a mistake if it removes the only way to deliver a later task safely.
Assign tasks by card control
Players with high cards in a task’s color are natural candidates, but voids and rockets can matter even more. Choose task ownership with the whole hand shape in mind when the mission allows choice.
Preserve the 4 rocket and other high trumps
High rockets are rescue tools. Spend them only when they solve a required task or prevent a critical wrong player from taking a card.
Track voids
When a player cannot follow a color, that information persists. Future leads in that color may let the void player discard dangerous cards or trump at a controlled moment.
Communication should remove real ambiguity
Do not spend a radio token to confirm what teammates can already infer from play. Use it when one piece of information changes who should lead, who should take a task or whether a suit is safe to continue.
Complete restrictive tasks first when possible
A task with order or timing restrictions has fewer safe windows than a simple “win this card” task. Resolve constrained objectives before card distribution removes the necessary control.
Do not over-trump
Winning a harmless trick with a rocket can leave the team unable to control the mission’s decisive late trick. If a normal suit card can do the job, preserve trump.
