Dead of Winter Win & Loss Conditions: Main and Secret Objectives
Dead of Winter separates game end from individual victory. The colony can finish the scenario while some players still fail their Secret Objectives.
The game can end in several ways
Core triggers include completing the Main Objective, morale reaching zero and the round track reaching zero. Some scenario or card effects can also create specific end conditions.
Morale at zero is catastrophic
If colony morale reaches zero, the game ends immediately. For normal loyal survivors, this generally prevents victory because the colony has failed.
Main Objective completion is necessary but not always sufficient
Most non-betrayer Secret Objectives require the Main Objective to be completed plus one or more personal conditions, such as specific items, survivors or resources.
Secret Objectives decide individual winners
When the game ends, read your Secret Objective. You win only if every listed requirement is true. It is possible for several players to win, one player to win or nobody to win.
Betrayer objectives use different conditions
A player with a Betrayal Secret Objective wants the listed colony failure/personal state rather than the normal cooperative result. The exact requirement on the card controls whether that betrayer wins.
Exile changes the objective structure
An exiled player receives/uses the exile rules and may have a different win condition. Do not evaluate an exiled player’s result using the original colony Secret Objective alone.
