Wingspan Birdfeeder Rules: Rerolls, Food Dice & Empty Feeders
The birdfeeder controls which food is immediately available in Wingspan. The most important rule question is when you are allowed to reroll its dice.
When is the birdfeeder rerolled?
If the birdfeeder is empty when you need to gain food from it, roll all five food dice into the birdfeeder before choosing food.
When may you reroll because all dice match?
When you are about to gain food, if every die currently in the birdfeeder shows the same face, you may reroll all five dice before taking food.
A single die counts as “all dice showing the same face,” so if only one die remains, you may reroll.
Do you have to reroll?
No. When the matching-face condition applies, rerolling is optional. You may keep the current food if it is what you need.
What counts as the same face?
The comparison is by the face showing on the dice. A die face that shows two food options is its own face for this purpose.
How do you gain food?
When you gain food from the birdfeeder, remove the chosen die and take the matching food token. If a face shows two food types separated by a slash, choose one of those food types.
What if an ability says to gain food but does not mention the birdfeeder?
Follow the exact bird-card text or icon. Some effects gain food from the supply rather than from dice, so they do not necessarily interact with the birdfeeder.
Does the birdfeeder refill automatically after every turn?
No. Dice stay out after being taken. The feeder is rerolled only when the rules or a card effect tell you to reroll it.
