Phase 10 Strategy: Phase Timing, Wilds, Hitting & Hand Control

Phase 10 strategy changes from hand to hand because the target combination changes.

Build for the current Phase first

Do not hold attractive cards that do not contribute to your current requirement unless they have clear defensive or hitting value.

Wilds are flexibility

A Wild can rescue a difficult Phase, but spending it too early can leave you unable to adapt when later draws change which set or run is easiest to finish.

Once laid down, change goals

After completing your Phase, your priority becomes emptying your hand through hits and discards before another player goes out.

Watch opponents’ phase status

A player who has already laid down can potentially go out quickly. Avoid feeding obvious useful cards into the discard pile when they can take them.

Reduce penalty exposure

If another player is close to going out, unload high-value or special cards where legally possible.
