Arcs

Lead a spacefaring faction through a sharp interactive struggle where card rank and suit control initiative, actions and which ambitions score each chapter.

♟2–4 Players◷60–120 Minutes♜Ages 14+⚙Heavy◆Interactive Space

Lead a spacefaring faction through chapters where cards determine initiative, action type and action strength.

Players compete for territory and resources while declaring ambitions that define what will score in each chapter, making timing and hand management central.

Why We Love It

Arcs makes initiative itself a resource. Card rank and suit determine who controls the pace of a round, which actions are efficient and which ambitions are worth declaring.

What is Arcs?

Arcs is Cole Wehrle’s space-opera strategy game for 2–4 players. This hub covers the single-session base game, not The Blighted Reach campaign expansion.

Players compete across a shared map, move ships, build, tax and secure resources while trying to control which scoring Ambitions matter during each chapter.

How the game works

Action selection is driven by numbered suited cards. The lead card establishes suit and initiative; other players respond according to the card-play rules, which determines action strength and who leads next.

Ambitions define scoring goals such as resources or trophies. Declaring an Ambition makes that objective relevant for the chapter, so the scoring landscape changes during play rather than remaining fixed.

The decisions that define it

The card system makes tempo visible but unstable. A weak hand can still be useful if it preserves initiative, copies a needed action or makes opponents spend stronger cards.

You also need to decide when to declare an Ambition: early enough to pursue it, but not so early that opponents can easily redirect toward the same score.

Who is it for?

Choose Arcs if your group wants direct interaction, tactical card play and a shared map where scoring priorities can shift from chapter to chapter.

For stronger faction asymmetry, compare Root; for a more economic space engine, compare Terraforming Mars.
