Baba Is You: The Board Game
Move words, rewrite the rules and turn a clever videogame puzzle into a head-to-head tabletop contest where YOU, WIN and even the objects you control can change during play.
Baba Is You: The Board Game is a competitive two-player strategy game from Bitewing Games based on Arvi Teikari’s award-winning puzzle videogame. Instead of solving static logic puzzles alone, two players manipulate words and objects on a shared board to change what the rules actually mean.
The Kickstarter campaign launched in September 2026 and is now in its final stretch with thousands of backers. The board game contains 35 unique levels arranged into seven worlds, with the option to play individual scenarios, complete a world in roughly one session, or work through the larger seven-world campaign.
Why it stands out
The central puzzle is not merely moving pieces toward a goal. The words on the board determine what objects are controllable, dangerous, movable, strong or capable of winning. Because both players can manipulate those rules, every scenario becomes a tactical contest over the game’s underlying logic.
Why this has strong search potential
The videogame already has a large established audience, while the tabletop adaptation changes the original concept substantially by turning it into competitive two-player strategy. That creates searches from both existing Baba fans and board gamers trying to understand whether the idea actually works physically.
Current search intent also includes Kickstarter pricing, the Adventure Pack, wooden Pixel Pack, acrylic Deluxe Upgrade Box, June 2027 delivery, campaign structure and whether the game can be replayed after all preset puzzles are known.
Game at a Glance
Control What Is YOU
Baba or Keke may begin as your character, but rule changes can give control of other objects too.
Push Words
Move word tiles around the grid to create and break sentences that define the current rules.
Rewrite Reality
A flag can become WIN, a river can become HOT, or a rock can become something you control.
Create a Win Condition
Nothing necessarily starts as WIN; first construct a winning rule, then reach it before your rival does.
How Baba Is You: The Board Game works
Each scenario uses a combination of level boards, object pieces and word tiles. At the beginning, one player normally controls Baba and the other controls Keke because sentences on the board define those characters as YOU.
Players then move around the grid, pushing word tiles to change the sentences. Those sentences are not reminders of rules; they are the rules.
To win, a player generally needs to create a state where something is WIN and then move something they control onto that winning object, or create an equivalent interaction through the current rule set.
How changing the rules works
The game uses physical words such as BABA, KEKE, ROCK, FLAG, YOU, WIN and other properties. When those words form a valid sentence, that rule becomes active immediately.
For example, if BABA IS YOU, the Baba piece is controlled by that player. If a player rearranges the board so ROCK IS YOU also becomes true, that player may gain control of rocks as well.
Likewise, a rule such as FLAG IS WIN can turn the flag into a victory condition. Breaking the sentence removes that property again.
The competitive challenge is therefore two-layered: you are moving pieces inside the current rules while simultaneously trying to alter the rules in your favor.
What kinds of properties can appear?
Campaign material and preview playthroughs show properties that can dramatically alter how objects behave. Examples include effects such as STRONG, SCARED, HOT and MELT.
A strong object may destroy or squash something it interacts with. A scared object can react to nearby pieces. HOT and MELT can create destructive interactions between different object types.
Because scenarios introduce different words over time, later worlds can create interactions that would not exist in the opening scenarios.
What do you do on a turn?
The physical board uses grid movement and pushing. The exact tactical possibilities depend on the scenario because a rule change can alter which pieces you control, what can be moved and which interactions are dangerous.
The important difference from the videogame is that there is an opponent actively trying to exploit the same mutable rules. A clever sentence can help you, but if it also opens a route for your opponent, the move may be strategically bad.
Editorial strategy principle: before changing a rule, evaluate the new board state from both players’ perspectives rather than assuming a beneficial property belongs only to you.
35 levels and seven worlds
The game includes 35 unique levels. They are grouped into seven worlds, with five scenarios in each world.
Bitewing recommends playing one world as a roughly one-hour session, but groups can divide the scenarios into shorter sessions.
Players can also work through all seven worlds as a longer campaign with the same opponent. That structure gradually introduces more rule concepts and more complicated interactions.
Is Baba Is You replayable after you know the puzzles?
This is one of the most important questions because the source videogame is heavily associated with discovering puzzle solutions.
The board game is designed differently. It is competitive, so another player’s choices prevent scenarios from having a single scripted solution. After completing the preset worlds, players can also mix and match levels to create additional scenarios.
That does not make knowledge irrelevant—experienced players will understand combinations better—but it gives the tabletop version a stronger repeat-play structure than a fixed solo puzzle sequence.
Is Baba Is You strictly a two-player game?
The published tabletop design is centered on two-player head-to-head play: one side begins associated with Baba and the other with Keke.
The current campaign does not present an official solo mode or a multiplayer team mode as a core feature. Buyers looking specifically for the solitary experience should therefore distinguish this adaptation from the original videogame.
How is it different from the Baba Is You videogame?
| Feature | Board Game | Videogame |
|---|---|---|
| Primary format | Competitive two-player strategy | Solo puzzle game |
| Rules | Changed with physical word tiles | Changed digitally on screen |
| Opposition | Human opponent exploiting the same board | Puzzle design itself |
| Progression | 35 levels / seven worlds | Large digital puzzle campaign |
| Replay | Opponent variation + mix-and-match scenarios | Primarily new puzzle discovery |
The key adaptation is therefore not the physical components. It is the shift from solving authored puzzles to competing over a mutable logical system.

What is the Adventure Pack?
Baba Is Promo: Adventure Pack is a promotional content pack included with the main $49 Kickstarter pledge.
The Kickstarter FAQ lists an estimated future MSRP of $7 for the Adventure Pack, while the base game itself has an estimated $50 MSRP.
Campaign buyers should distinguish the Adventure Pack from the Deluxe Upgrade Box: the Adventure Pack adds promotional game content, while Deluxe primarily upgrades components.
What is the Pixel Pack?
The base Kickstarter pledge also includes Baba Is Wood: Pixel Pack. This is part of the campaign bonus bundle attached to the Baba game pledge.
The Deluxe tier then adds acrylic replacements/upgrades beyond the wooden promotional components.
Standard vs Deluxe: which matters more?
The $49 Standard pledge already includes the complete core game plus its campaign promo packs.
The $75 Deluxe pledge is mainly aimed at players who want upgraded tactile presentation through the Deluxe Upgrade Box.
For gameplay-first buyers, Standard is therefore the natural reference point. Deluxe becomes more compelling if the acrylic treatment is part of the appeal of physically manipulating words and objects.
What does the $95 All-In add?
The All-In tier builds on Deluxe with a neoprene playmat and a campaign-exclusive metal-foil box.
Those extras do not fundamentally change the core rule-manipulation system. The jump from Standard to Deluxe/All-In is primarily about presentation and campaign collectability rather than access to the 35-level campaign.
Why is Party House in the same Kickstarter?
Bitewing Games launched Party House: The Deckbuilding Game in the same campaign. Party House adapts a different videogame from the UFO 50 collection.
Backers can purchase either title independently or use bundle tiers to receive both. The games are separate products and do not require one another.
Baba Is You board game release date
The Kickstarter FAQ currently estimates June 2027 delivery.
The campaign closes on October 9, 2026 at 01:00 UTC. Delivery estimates can change during manufacturing and fulfillment, so June should not be treated as a guaranteed arrival date.
Will Baba Is You be available at retail?
Yes, the campaign FAQ includes retailer ordering information and lists an estimated $50 MSRP for the base board game.
However, campaign bonuses, Deluxe items and bundle discounts should not automatically be assumed to match later retail offers. Buyers interested in specific promo components should compare the final retail package after release.
Will Baba Is You be translated?
The Kickstarter version is English-language. This matters more here than in many abstract games because words such as YOU, WIN, HOT and MELT are functional game components.
Bitewing says it is working on localization agreements but does not expect translated editions before late 2027 or later.
How successful is the Kickstarter?
The campaign set a $15,000 funding goal and passed it by a very large margin. BoardGameGeek’s current crowdfunding feed shows more than 7,000 backers as the project reaches its final day.
That is significant for a two-player abstract strategy adaptation and suggests interest extends beyond a small collector niche.
Funding success is evidence of demand, not evidence that the finished game will necessarily satisfy every backer.
Who may like Baba Is You: The Board Game?
The strongest fit is a pair that likes tactical abstract games and enjoys discovering unusual interactions rather than optimizing a conventional economy or combat engine.
Fans of the videogame may appreciate seeing the rule-manipulation concept preserved while being forced to think differently because another player can interfere with the same words.
It may be less suitable if you want multiplayer game-night flexibility, dislike adversarial puzzle games or prefer strategy systems whose rules remain stable from turn to turn.
Six things to check before backing
- This is a competitive two-player adaptation. Do not assume it recreates the videogame as a solo board puzzle.
- The $49 pledge already contains the full core game. Deluxe is primarily a component upgrade.
- There are 35 preset levels. Replayability then comes from human opposition and mix-and-match scenarios.
- The Kickstarter edition is English. Language matters because words are active game pieces.
- June 2027 is an estimate. It is not a guaranteed delivery date.
- Shipping and taxes are separate from pledge price. Compare landed cost, not only the headline tier.
