What is Forest Shuffle?
Forest Shuffle is Kosch’s card game about building a balanced woodland ecosystem. Players add trees to personal forests and place animals, plants and fungi around those trees.
This hub covers the original 2023 Forest Shuffle base game, not the separate Dartmoor or Smoky Mountains games.
How the game works
Cards are multifunctional. Trees provide card slots, while many species cards are split and can be played to different sides of trees.
To play a card, you normally pay by placing other cards from your hand into the shared clearing. Card effects and scoring depend on specific tree types, species families, habitats and combinations already present in your forest.
The decisions that define it
The central puzzle is synergy density: a card is strongest when it advances several scoring relationships at once.
Hand management matters because cards are also payment, so developing the forest means giving up other potential future plays.
