The Anarchy
The Anarchy explained: use multi-use cards, develop your domain, defend a castle, build siege engines, chain actions and manage discontent across five rounds.
Take the role of an English noble loyal to King Stephen during the civil conflict known as the Anarchy, developing your domain while defending it from approaching armies.
Multi-use cards and dense action chains create a combo-focused strategy game built around castle defense, siege preparation and several scoring tracks.
Why We Love It
The Anarchy rewards planning turns as chains rather than isolated actions. A resource gain can trigger development, which can unlock another track, which can then support the next military or economic step.
About The Anarchy
Across five rounds, players develop personal domains, defend castles against Angevin forces and attack enemy strongholds with constructed siege weapons.
Bravery, loyalty, influence and might contribute to success, while excessive discontent can undermine an otherwise efficient engine.

Rules overview
The game lasts five rounds. Players use multi-purpose cards and personal-board actions to gather resources, develop their domains, prepare defenses and construct siege equipment. Threats pressure the castle while players pursue bravery, loyalty, influence and might. Many rewards trigger additional actions, creating long sequences when an engine is prepared well. The base game also includes a 20-chapter solo campaign with additional cards and rules.
Key decisions
Editorial analysis: Treat each resource as part of a chain rather than an endpoint. The strongest turns begin with an action that unlocks two or three follow-up rewards while still keeping castle defense ahead of the incoming threat curve.
