Eldritch Horror Win & Loss Conditions: Mysteries, Doom & Awakening
Eldritch Horror’s victory condition changes if the Ancient One awakens. Before awakening, the team wants to solve three Mysteries; afterward, an additional Final Mystery normally becomes necessary.
Normal victory: solve three Mysteries
As soon as investigators solve three Mystery cards while the Ancient One remains asleep, the investigators win immediately.
Doom reaching zero awakens the Ancient One
When the Doom track reaches the awakening threshold, flip/resolve the Ancient One sheet as instructed. The game does not always end immediately; instead, harsher rules and a Final Mystery normally enter play.
Final Mystery after awakening
After awakening, the team must satisfy the Ancient One’s Final Mystery in addition to the required Mystery progress. Each Ancient One defines a different final confrontation.
Elimination becomes harsher after awakening
Before awakening, a defeated investigator can normally be replaced according to the defeat rules. After awakening, defeated/devoured investigators can eliminate their controlling players. If all players are eliminated, investigators lose.
Ancient-One-specific losses
Awakened Ancient One sheets can add direct loss conditions tied to Doom, Monsters, Mythos or other effects. Those printed rules take precedence over generic expectations.
Mythos/Rumor effects can also end the game
Some cards or effects explicitly state that investigators lose when a condition is met. Resolve that text immediately when its trigger occurs.
