How to Play Decrypto: Codes, Clues, Interceptions & Miscommunication

Decrypto is a team clue game where each side protects four secret keywords numbered 1–4. Every round, one Encryptor sees a three-number code and gives three clues so teammates can reconstruct that sequence without teaching the opponents too much.

Each team has four hidden keywords

Place four keyword cards behind your team’s screen in positions 1–4. Your team can see its own words; the opposing team cannot.

The Encryptor draws a three-number code

The code identifies three keyword positions in order. The Encryptor gives one clue for each digit, trying to make the mapping clear to teammates but not to the rival team.

Opponents record clues and try to intercept

Both teams hear the clue sequence. After enough information exists under the round rules, the opposing team may attempt to predict the code before your own team reveals its guess.

Your team must also decode correctly

If your teammates fail to identify their own three-digit code, your team receives a miscommunication token. Clear but secure clues are therefore more important than merely being obscure.

Correct opponent guesses earn interception tokens

When the opposing team correctly predicts your code, they gain an interception token. Repeated clue patterns make interception easier because rivals build a semantic map of your four secret words over time.

The game ends from interceptions or miscommunications

A team wins by reaching the required interception threshold or can lose by accumulating the required number of miscommunication tokens. Use the standard rulebook thresholds and tie-resolution sequence.
