How to Play Hansa Teutonica Big Box: Routes, Offices & Skills

Hansa Teutonica is an interactive route-building eurogame. Players use a limited number of actions to occupy trade routes, displace rivals, complete routes, establish offices and improve personal skills.

Your player board defines current abilities

Personal tracks determine how many actions you have, how many pieces can move, how many traders return after displacement, which office colors you may occupy and the strength/value of certain scoring abilities.

Use actions to place, move or displace pieces

Place traders/merchants on empty route spaces, move groups of your pieces when your ability permits, or displace an opponent by paying the extra pieces required by the rules. The displaced player receives compensation pieces to redeploy.

Complete a trade route by filling every connection point

When all spaces between two cities are occupied by your pieces, resolve the route. Remove those route pieces and choose the legal reward: establish an office, improve a skill at an eligible city or gain another printed benefit.

Offices create networks and city control

Offices remain in cities and can score during the game or at the end depending on position and map rules. Connected offices also contribute to your largest network.

Bonus markers reward selected completed routes

Some routes carry bonus markers. Completing those routes can award one-time actions or scoring opportunities and then seed new markers according to the rules.

The game can end before the board is full

Base-map end conditions include reaching the prestige threshold and other board-state limits defined in the rulebook. When an end condition occurs, proceed to final scoring.
