How to Play Troyes: Dice, Workers, Activities & Events
Troyes is a dice-action eurogame where your workers generate dice in three colors, but opponents can buy those dice from you. Dice therefore represent shared opportunities rather than private actions.
Scope: base game only; Les Dames de Troyes excluded.
Workers generate dice
Workers in the Palace, Bishopric and City Hall produce red, white and yellow dice. Roll them at the start of the round and place them in your district.
Use Influence to manage uncertainty
Influence can reroll dice, turn dice over or support other effects. Spend it when improving the result creates more action value than saving the Influence for later.
Buy dice from other players
You may pay coins to use an opponent’s die. The cost depends on the number of dice in the group/action under the normal rules.
Activate Activity cards
Spend one or more dice of the matching color to activate a revealed Activity card. Divide or convert the dice total as instructed to determine how many times the action resolves.
Fight Event cards
Events pressure the city and can penalize players. Spend suitable dice to remove event cubes and gain Influence, points or other rewards.
Place workers or build the Cathedral
Dice can also support worker placement and Cathedral construction. Cathedral levels score during play and can protect against end-game penalties.
Hidden Character cards
Each player knows one Character card, but all revealed Character scoring conditions apply to every player at game end.
Endgame
After the final round, add Character-card scoring and other final categories to points earned during play.
