Spirit Island Victory & Loss Conditions: Fear, Terror and Blight
Spirit Island is a cooperative win/loss game rather than a victory-point game. Fear makes the victory condition progressively easier while the Invaders threaten several independent loss conditions.
Base-game rules guide. Checked September 20, 2026 against Greater Than Games’ current Spirit Island resources.
Terror Level I: remove every Invader
At the starting Terror Level, the Spirits win only when no Explorers, Towns or Cities remain on the island, subject to any adversary/scenario modifications.
Terror Level II: no Towns or Cities
After earning enough Fear to reveal the Terror Level II divider, Explorers no longer prevent victory. You win when there are no Towns or Cities left.
Terror Level III: no Cities
At Terror Level III, only Cities matter to the standard victory condition. Removing the final City can end the game even if Towns and Explorers remain.
Fear can produce its own final victory
Continue earning Fear cards through the deck. Reaching the final fear-victory state ends the game in a Spirit victory under the base rules, even if Invaders remain.
Loss: too much Blight
If Blight reaches the base-game loss condition or the active Blight card’s loss state, the Spirits lose immediately. Expansions and updated Blight setup can alter the exact supply procedure, so follow the components/rules in your edition.
Loss: a Spirit has no Presence left on the island
If any Spirit loses all of its Presence from the island, the team loses. Presence still on the Spirit panel is not Presence on the island.
Loss: the Invader deck runs out
If the game requires a new Invader card and there is none to draw, the team loses. This is the time limit even when Blight is under control.
Adversaries and scenarios can add conditions
Difficulty modules can modify victory or add loss conditions. Check the adversary/scenario panel in addition to these base rules.
