UNO Call, Penalty & Scoring Rules Explained
The official UNO game includes a specific penalty for failing to call UNO and a scoring system that many casual groups skip.
When do you say UNO?
Call UNO when you play your next-to-last card and are left with exactly one card.
What happens if you forget?
If another player catches you before the next player begins their turn, you draw 2 cards.
What if your last card is Draw Two or Wild Draw Four?
The affected player still draws the required cards. Those cards count when the winner totals the hand.

- Number cards: face value
- Draw Two, Reverse, Skip: 20 points each
- Wild and Wild Draw Four: 50 points each
How do you win the full game?
The round winner scores all cards left in opponents’ hands. The first player or team to reach 500 points wins under standard scoring.
