UNO Stacking Rules: Draw Two, Wild Draw Four & Challenges
Standard UNO does not include stacking Draw Two or Wild Draw Four cards. When a Draw Two is played, the next player draws 2 and loses their turn. When a legal Wild Draw Four is played, the next player draws 4 and loses their turn unless they challenge.
Can you stack a Draw Two?
Not under the standard rules. The affected player loses their turn after drawing, so they do not play another Draw Two to pass the penalty onward.
Can you stack a +4?
Not in standard UNO. Mattel now sells optional add-on cards specifically designed to introduce stacking, which further distinguishes the add-on mechanic from the base rules.
When is Wild Draw Four legal?
You may play it only when you do not have a card matching the current color. A matching number or symbol in another color does not by itself make the +4 illegal.
How does a challenge work?
The challenged player shows their hand to the challenger. If the +4 was illegal, the player who used it draws 4 instead. If it was legal, the challenger draws 6 total.
