Bomb Busters Strategy: Rack Inference, Safe Cuts & Information Value
Editorial analysis: Bomb Busters rewards information gain almost as much as successful cuts. A failed guess can still be useful if it sharply narrows several rack positions without pushing the detonator too close to failure.
Use sorted positions as ranges
If a known 5 sits left of a known 8 on a teammate’s rack, every hidden wire between them is constrained to that numeric interval. Combine all visible Info tokens before making a guess.
Track completed sets
There are four copies of each blue value. Once all four are cut, eliminate that number from every remaining hypothesis. Near the end, this can turn uncertain positions into forced deductions.
Prefer guesses with useful failure information
If two candidate guesses have similar success probability, choose the one where a miss would reveal a value that constrains more neighboring wires or unlocks a stronger follow-up cut.
Do not spend equipment on deductions the team already has
Equipment is strongest when it breaks an information deadlock, avoids a dangerous red-wire region or creates multiple certain cuts—not when it merely confirms an obvious value.
Respect detonator tempo
Early in a mission, one informative miss can be acceptable. Near the skull, speculative cuts should disappear and the team should use accumulated Info tokens/equipment to force certainty.
Late mission: solve from the outside inward
Extreme low/high rack positions often have fewer possible values than crowded middle positions. Clearing those certainties can expose new boundary information for the harder wires.
