Memoir ’44 Strategy: Command Cards, Focus Fire & Objectives
Editorial analysis: Memoir ’44 rewards concentration. Damaging several units is often weaker than eliminating one and securing a medal.
Build around the cards in hand
Do not plan a perfect flank attack if your Command cards cannot activate that section.
Focus fire
Concentrate attacks on reduced units when possible. Every surviving figure can still return fire.
Use terrain before attacking from it
Forests, towns and hills can improve survival or line of sight. Occupy favorable terrain before exposing fragile units.
Protect nearly destroyed units
A one-figure unit is an easy medal. Pull it out of danger when its remaining combat value is low.
Objectives can be cheaper than kills
Scenario medals may be easier to secure than destroying another full unit.
Adapt to scenario asymmetry
Many scenarios are intentionally uneven. Play toward your side’s terrain, reinforcement and objective advantages rather than assuming mirror tactics.
