Monopoly Strategy: Auctions, Property Groups & Cash Management
Monopoly strategy is mainly about converting cash into rent-producing control without becoming unable to survive one bad landing.
Use auctions
Official auctions put more properties into circulation and often create buying opportunities below printed price. Evaluate what a property is worth to every bidder, not just to you.
Trade toward complete color groups
Single properties generate limited leverage. A completed group unlocks houses and creates the largest rent jumps.
Build efficiently
Houses generally create a stronger rent-per-dollar jump than simply hoarding cash, but you still need enough liquidity to survive opposing monopolies.
Jail changes value later
Early in the game, movement helps you buy unowned property. Later, when developed rent spaces dominate the board, spending turns in Jail can reduce exposure while you continue collecting rent.
Do not confuse house rules with strategy
Free Parking jackpots and skipped auctions can alter the economy substantially; strategy changes if your group uses them.
