How to Play Monopoly: Property, Rent, Auctions & Bankruptcy
Classic Monopoly is a property-trading elimination game. Move by rolling two dice, buy unowned properties, collect rent and build houses/hotels after completing color groups.
Starting money
Each player begins with $1,500 under the classic rules.
Buying property
When you land on an unowned property, railroad or utility, you may buy it for the printed price.
What if you do not buy it?
The Banker must auction the property. Any player—including the player who declined to buy it—may bid.
Rent and monopolies
Owners collect the rent printed on the Title Deed. Completing a color group increases its value and allows houses and hotels under the building rules.
Jail
Jail restricts movement but does not remove you from the economy. You can still manage property and collect rent under standard rules.
Bankruptcy
If you cannot meet a debt after raising money legally, you are bankrupt and leave the game. The last solvent player wins.
