Mouse Trap Strategy: Cheese Economy, Trap Targets & Tunnels

Mouse Trap contains a large luck component, but C0431 gives players choices about stealing, trap targets and tunnel use.

Target the leader with the trap

A successful cage hit both removes one cheese from an opponent and adds it to your wheel, so attacking the player closest to six creates the largest race swing.

Steal where it changes the standings

When a green space gives you a choice, take from a player whose loss matters. Stealing from the leader is usually stronger than taking from someone far behind.

Use tunnels for position, not automatically

A tunnel can shorten the route, but its value depends on the board spaces ahead. Consider whether the exit improves your chance of hitting cheese or trap spaces.

Protect your final wedge

At five cheese, opponents have a strong incentive to target you. Any choice that reduces exposure to a trap or steal can be worth more than raw movement.
