Ra Strategy: Auction Timing, Sun Disks & Epoch Risk
Editorial analysis: Ra is a game of declining time and finite bids. A strong lot is only valuable if you can still win it with the Sun disks you have left.
Value the center Sun as part of the lot
Winning an auction also changes your future Sun portfolio. A modest tile lot can be worthwhile if the center Sun materially improves your bidding power for the next epoch.
Spend weak Suns before the table becomes desperate
Low-value Suns lose leverage when several premium tiles accumulate. Use them on efficient small lots or voluntary auctions rather than carrying them into a position where they cannot win anything useful.
The Ra track increases the value of certainty
As the Sun Boat approaches the end, every draw risks ending the epoch without another auction. Bid more aggressively for tiles you truly need instead of assuming there will be one final opportunity.
Civilizations reward diversity, not volume
Once you have a civilization type, extra copies do not improve the diversity threshold by themselves. Prioritize missing types when the point jump is realistic.
Nile needs Flood support
Nile tiles produce no points in an epoch without at least one Flood. Do not overpay for a long river collection if the current auction cycle gives you no reliable Flood access.
God tiles create timing flexibility
An unspent God scores points, but spending it can extract exactly the tile that completes a Civilization set or protects an epoch score without consuming a Sun disk. Compare that tactical gain with the God’s direct points.
Monuments become decisive only in epoch 3
Early Monument acquisitions are long-term investments. In the final epoch, evaluate both identical sets and type diversity because the same tile may improve two Monument scoring formulas at once.
