Tzolk’in Strategy: Gear Timing, Corn, Technology & Temples
Editorial analysis: Tzolk’in rewards planning actions several rounds before you need them. A worker left on a gear is gaining action strength but losing flexibility.
Place workers for a specific future removal
Before placing, identify the target gear position and approximate round when you want to remove. “Put a worker here and see what happens” often creates awkward timing later.
Do not strand every worker on long waits
High gear positions are powerful, but if all workers are committed you may be unable to respond to food pressure, starting-player timing or a suddenly valuable building.
Corn is both food and action flexibility
Corn pays worker placement costs and feeds the tribe. Running too close to zero can force bad placements or premature removals just before a stronger gear action becomes available.
Technology should improve actions you already repeat
Early technology compounds across multiple gear cycles. Invest where it improves the resource or building path your workers are already pursuing.
Prepare for Food Days before they arrive
Feeding shortages can erase the benefit of a strong gear plan. Count workers and corn one or two rounds ahead, especially before adding population.
Final gear timing is pure conversion
Near the final Food Day, a worker waiting for a position it will never reach is wasted. Remove workers early enough to convert their last meaningful actions into temple progress, monuments or other VP.
